Slavery - Lasted for 258 years in North America, ending in 1865 with the 13th Amendment
Racial Segregation - It took 95 years from that point for the US to outlaw segregation based on race.
Presidency - It took 233 years for the US to finally elect a black president
Sexual Discrimination - It took 144 years for the US to allow women the right to vote
All these steps in the right direction, and "We the people" still can't treat every person as a human person living under the flag of the United States of America. After all the fighting we've done to be free, all the preaching we do about democracy and how Freedom is what makes this country great, there's still a fragment of shallow, short-sightedness about our people that feels the need to hold traits in place of rights. We still put the voice of corrupt religious institutions in the face of government, which has no place in our politics.
Disallowing LGBT folk the right to marry one another damages the fundamental structure this country was founded on. Restricting their rights damages the economy, and in these times, that can become a fatal blow to many. If we don't continue to move forward and improve our understanding of humanity as humans, and don't stop putting up barriers based on traits; we will all lose.
When this project was brought to me by Cyan, I didn't hesitate even a second to take it up and get it off the ground, and I thank everyone that joins.
I'm a heterosexual male; retired from the Republican party for their shallow views, recovering "Cathoholic" for their bigotry - and I support gay marriage to the fullest. LGBTs have time and again in my life proved to hold relationship and family closer and more sincere than anyone in any of the parties I was previously associated with. Restricting them for whatever reason is simply, and completely, utterly, shameless, stupid, archaic, and pathetic.
Fight the injustice.
