Paterson Unveils Same-Sex Marriage Bill

Gov. David A. Paterson on Thursday announced he would introduce a bill to legalize same-sex marriage, drawing on the soaring oratory of the civil rights movement to call on the Legislature to add New York to the four states that have already authorized such unions.

Comparing the status of gay men and lesbians to that of African-Americans, Jews, women and other groups who were historically excluded from full political and social equality, Mr. Paterson said he would lead a movement to… Continue

Vermont Passes Gay-Marriage Bill (4/50)

BOSTON (Reuters) - Vermont lawmakers on Tuesday overrode a veto from the governor in passing a bill that would allow same-sex marriage, clearing the way for the state to become the fourth in the nation where gay marriage is legal.

The Vermont House of Representatives passed the bill by a 100-49 vote after it cleared the state Senate 23-5 earlier in the day. In Vermont, a bill needs two-thirds support in each… Continue

My take on the LGBT rights movement

Slavery - Lasted for 258 years in North America, ending in 1865 with the 13th Amendment

Racial Segregation - It took 95 years from that point for the US to outlaw segregation based on race.

Presidency - It took 233 years for the US to finally elect a black president

Sexual Discrimination - It took 144 years for the US to allow women the right to vote

All these steps in the right direction, and "We the people" still can't treat every person as a… Continue
