Is this site a non-profit entity?
It is a break even venture, but not officially a non-profit entity. We looked into filing for non-profit status and the start-up costs were in the 20k range. Looking to be under a non-profit fiscal umbrella. If you know about how this works, please get in touch with Cyan. In the meantime, we're operating this under Enrique's web development business and we'll sort it out as we go along. Check back here for updates.
Where is the money going?
Net proceeds for this project are going to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Joining the site is a great start. Invite your friends. Share articles, photos, videos -- anything that you think helps the cause. Buy a bracelet if you can and wear it to show others how you feel. How did you get the idea to do this?
On election day I (Cyan) felt hopeless. Personally, I think the government shouldn't be involved in marriage at all, but the government is and that's not going away any time soon. I thought about talking to people as they walked in to vote, but I knew that it was the worst use of my time. I wanted to do something on a larger scale to raise awareness across the globe, not just in California. So, after watching Harvey Milk, I knew what I had to do. I needed to recruit you. Together we are strong. Together we can make a difference. Together we can share ideas.
